I always get questions regarding my hair and I have to give all the praise to my hairstylist, @hairbyjuliedavis! She has helped me achieve the color and cut of my dreams… I always tell her I want Melissa Gorga’s hair! One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is how I curl my hair. I hope with a few tips and tricks you can also achieve my not too curly, voluminous curls. Also, you can see this step by step in videos on my Instagram highlight titled Hair.
In my Insta stories you will notice I’m on day two hair but whether your on day 1 or day 4, you can follow the same steps:
- Use dry shampoo at the roots and where you frequently touch your hair. For me, it’s at the crown of my head and my bangs. I also put a little all over to ensure I won’t feel oily throughout the day.
- Use a comb and texture powder to tease the hair at the crown. I usually do this in three sections, the very top layer at the back of my head and the top layer on each side. This helps keep the volume in place all day and soak up the oil.
- I have a lot of layers and to ensure you get enough volume you’ll want to section your hair multiple times. I start with the very bottom layer and leave the rest of my hair at the top of my head in a clip. Lightly tease each section before you curl it towards the scalp with a comb.
- For the bottom few layers, I focus on curling my hair at the bottom end toward the middle of the section of hair. You’ll want to take a decent section of hair to curl but not too much or the curl will not be tight enough. The smaller the section, the more volume you’ll achieve. I use this one-inch curling iron.
- Once you get to the top two sections of your layers you’ll want to start curling from the top to the bottom, leave more of the bottom part of the section out of the curling iron to achieve more of that beachy wave look.
- After curling use this hair oil and to tame flyaways and baby hairs around the crown. I like to use an old but clean mascara wand, apply a little oil to the wand and use it to comb down my flyaways!
- Let curls cool and set for a few minutes then run your fingers through the curls to loosen them up.
- Lightly mist curls with hair spray and texturizing spray.
I highly encourage you to watch my hair highlight on Instagram to better understand each step!
