Drum roll, please! Are you ready for my big announcement? I will officially be working for myself full time by early May!!!!! I am so excited to embark on this journey and chase my dreams of being my own boss, helping other women get dressed every day, and working with brands I love.
For the past six years, I’ve worked for female-owned small businesses, specifically in the dental field. I’ve learned so much in those 6 years, but most importantly I gained an appreciation for the hard work it takes to make a small business function every single day. I can wholeheartedly say, I’ve put in so much work, every single day, creating Honey Sweet Petite. I never expected, but secretly hoped, I’d run my own business someday.
Shortly after David and I got married in 2015 we moved away from home and I began spending more time on Instagram and Pinterest looking for outfit inspiration. I started discovering young women around my age sharing their outfits and blogs! I was instantly hooked and thought to myself, “I can do that too!” It wasn’t until 2019, when we moved to Charleston, that I finally did it! I created a blog website and an Instagram account with the goal of working my day job in dentistry and then coming home to do what I really love, sharing fashion and beauty.
In my first year of blogging, I shared my outfits and what we were doing when I had free time, but when the pandemic started I realized my passion for my blog had really grown. With the unknown of when I would return to work, I started to really pursue my blog and started to notice it was growing. I also have to admit, that I was pretty unhappy and unfulfilled at my dental jobs. I didn’t enjoy dealing with the public, the very long hours, and high expectations. I often came home in such a bad mood every single day. I grew so upset every day in my job so I started giving more time to my blog. Every weekend I worked on Honey Sweet Petite and on some weekends I would cry to David because I was so exhausted from working all week and then not being able to rest on the weekends. But, by January 2021, I was able to go back to the dental office part-time since my blog was picking up.
After analyzing the year I had in 2021 and talking with David, we decided it made no sense for me to keep working in the dental field. I honestly couldn’t believe I was in this position. I spent 6 years working in a career, I didn’t love but tolerated, I prayed all the time for God to give me a job where I could work from home, make my own schedule, and freely travel on my own terms. This whole situation has truly been an answered prayer.
I now work more hours for myself than I’ve worked at any other job in the past and I love every second of it! My blog never feels like actual work because I love what I do, well except when I have to do my taxes! I can’t imagine doing anything else now and I wake up excited to start working every day. There are still days that are challenging especially with the changes in social media and dealing with people who aren’t always pleasant behind their screens, AKA the trolls, but I wouldn’t trade my blog for any other career!
While I know I share a lot of different outfits every day, my goal is to simply provide you with outfit inspiration. I hope I encourage you to look into your closet and find ways to wear items you haven’t reached for in a while and occasionally incorporate new pieces into your wardrobe. My goal here is to continue sharing outfits, and more beauty, and lifestyle segments. A few ways you can support my small business are to simply engage with my content on Instagram, follow me in the free LTK app, and use my links when you shop online.
Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU!!!!! I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for your dedicated support. So many of you have been here from the very beginning and watching all of these milestones take place with me! Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
