I wanted to come on here and share a few ways I am trying to stay physically and mentally healthy during this difficult time in all of our lives. Below you will see a few things I try to incorporate into my daily life. Do I always accomplish each one every day, NO! I’m not perfect and during this time it’s important to listen to your body. If you feel like you need to grieve, then do so, if you feel like you need a mental break, then take one! There is no perfect way to navigate this current situation and we are all impacted differently. I hope that my list will encourage you to take some action and at the very least, lift your spirit, even just a little bit.
// Drink Water – Sounds easy right? I have been struggling with this one so much since being home. When I was working I carried a 64 oz Hydroflask of water to work every day and my goal was to finish it by 5:00 pm. Since I’m not going to work I’ve noticed I easily lose track of time and it dawns on me that I’ve only had one glass of water in 3 hours. I recently found a water bottle that I love, which in turn helps me stay hydrated. I still have to be intentional about drinking water but I noticed I drink more when I use this particular bottle. You can find it here.
// Move Your Body – Do I exercise regularly – no! But my body was pretty active when I had to get up and go to work and often get up from my desk. I’ve become very idle at home which makes me feel so sluggish. Even if you are working from home take breaks to move around. Take a 5-minute break to stretch or take a 30-minute walk. Walks outside have helped me so much mentally and physically. If you are looking for a workout to do at home, I love the Tone It Up Series. You can find free workouts on their website and on Youtube!
// Take a Multivitamin – First off let me say, I am not a physician and if you are unsure about taking a daily multivitamin, you should ask your doctor. For me it has helped by providing the nutrition I need, since eating healthy during this time is not always easy. Most multivitamins also have a dose of Vitamin C which is a great help to your immune system! Here are the vitamins I take daily, they are yummy too!
// Set Goals – This does not mean learning a new hobby, an instrument or a new language. I mean set 1-3 small tasks you want to accomplish each day and write them down, whether it be in your phone or on paper. These can be things like doing 2 loads of laundry, unloading and loading the dishwasher, tidying up a room in the house, trying a new recipe, calling a friend or family member and so on. Feeling like you’re in a rut during this time is an easy place to slip into, I speak from experience. But try to have something to look forward to each day that will lift your spirits. I am really trying to use this time to communicate with friends and family that I would otherwise be too busy to talk to regularly.
// Pray With Intention – While I have been feeling in a rut, I noticed I wasn’t praying about specific things around me. Most of the time I feel like I talk to God throughout my day but I don’t necessarily ask him to help me and guide me or to help others. So I encourage you to pray for specific things to happen and for specific people in your life! Praying is the best way to lighten that boulder that’s weighing you down. I have enjoyed following @linenflaxhome, where you can find a daily prayer reminder that reflects our current
